The AI Apprenticeships Academy for Health is a 15-month apprenticeship levy-funded programme for professionals working in health who want the skillset to build data-driven AI solutions and transform the use of data in health.
Watch the recording of our webinar to find out about the work of HDR UK and Cambridge Spark to build health data science capability.
Delivered by Cambridge Spark with expert contribution from Health Data Research UK, the AI Apprenticeship Academy for Health is an opportunity for new and existing employees to upskill with advanced data science and AI skills through a work-based development programme. Learners will gain a government recognised Level 7 qualification in data science (equivalent to a MSc) and the programme can be funded by the Apprenticeship Levy.
Through a series of 21 modules delivered over 15 months, learners will develop the skills to discover and devise new data-driven AI solutions, automate and optimise business processes, and support, augment and enhance strategic decision-making.
The programme is delivered through EDUKATE.AI, Cambridge Spark's proprietary online learning platform for data science and AI. After live lectures, learners will apply their skills to assignments on EDUKATE.AI that simulate a real-world industry environment. EDUKATE.AI provides immediate personalised feedback on Python code, helping accelerate the learner journey and increasing the speed at which skills can be deployed in the workplace.
Our unique flexible online learning, our monthly Industry Expert Insights speaker series and our inspiring, specialist professional trainers will empower you to develop an advanced skillset for health data science and AI. For the apprenticeship, you will spend 20% of your working hours learning and applying new skills & knowledge.
The Academy has been specifically designed for employees already using Python programming at an intermediate level. Candidates will also need to be familiar with statistics and linear algebra.
To be eligible for Apprenticeship Levy funding, there are some pre-requisites:
Apprenticeships are a long-term training commitment which seek to upskill existing UK-based employees within an organisation, enabling employers to foster a workforce consisting of highly-skilled and highly-engaged talent.
They typically run over 12-24 months and include 20% off-the-job training, enabling a blended approach between theory and practical-learning.
Apprenticeships are open to anyone in full-time employment in England. They are open to current as well as new employees, people of any age, and even those with previous qualifications.
Apprenticeships can be for people early in their careers as well as experienced talent looking to advance their skill set or change careers, which is increasingly necessary as the world of work changes.
In England, if you are a large organisation with annual salaries over £3m you can have your apprenticeships 100% funded by the government through the apprenticeship levy. Employers who do not fall into this group can either have 95% funded by the government (and pay just 5%) or can have levy transferred from another levy-paying organisation to have them 100% funded.
Off-the-job training is defined as learning which is undertaken outside of the day-to-day work duties and it must take place within the apprentice’s normal working hours.
It can be delivered on a flexible basis, for example, as part of each day, one day per week, one week out of five or as block release, and can be carried out at the apprentice’s place of work or from home.
The 20% off-the-job training provides learners with the time to focus and develop the required skills, knowledge and behaviours to achieve the apprenticeship
